Astrum Solar, who is one of the leading full-serve residential providers in the nation, has very quietly shut down it's Ohio operations. They opened an office in Youngstown in 2010. They were participants in Ohio Advanced Energy Economy with us.
We have heard from several sources that the combination of low electricity prices and crushed SREC market led to the decision.
As a bruised Ohio solar industry veteran I very much understand their position. There are greener pastures elsewhere.
We are sad to see a great company leave our market.
Side note to Ohio legislators: Other states continue to grow their solar market and thus continue to attract and keep companies versus driving them away, Eight states expanded their RPS policies this year include Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, Virginia and Washington.
