Solar thermal is used to produce your business’s hot water or heat your business through your existing ductwork or radiant floor. Installation of solar thermal varies based on your needs and one system can service multiple needs. Plus, Solar Thermal is extremely efficient, capturing up to 70% of the sun’s heat for use.

A solar hot water system uses the sun's energy to heat your business. A solar collector, full of solar fluid (or water, depending on which type of system you install), is heated by the sun’s light and then transfers that heat (or hot water) into your business's hot water tank. (1) After sufficient heat is drawn from the collectors, a controller automatically activates pumps. (2) Heated solar fluid is then circulated from the collector, (3) through a heat exchanger, called a flexible conduit where its heat is transferred to (4) water in the storage tank. (5) The solar fluid is then pumped back to the collector to once again be reheated. This circulation loop will continue as long as there is heat to be drawn from the collector. During times when there is little or no sun, a backup heating system will be activated to provide adequate hot water.

Maintenance/Warranty

Tipping Point systems include a comprehensive, 10-year warranty against manufacturing and installation defects. Tipping Point Renewable Energy provides free maintenance checks every three years and yearly checks by the business can ensure proper operation.


The collector is placed on a section of your roof or wall that receives un-shaded southern exposure usually occupying 50 to 80 sq ft of space. The collector is made of an array of evacuated tubes to heat a copper heat pipe.
Two flexible tubes, called flexible conduit, are used to pass the fluid down from the solar collectors to the water heater with minimal modification to existing home elements.
Hot water storage tank: The hot water storage tank is installed next to the existing water heater, and in some cases, directly to your water heater. All of the water that enters your water heater passes through the solar storage tank. If the water in the storage tank is hot enough, the water heater does not use any energy to heat the water. When the solar system is not heating the water in the solar storage tank, the conventional water heater provides hot water to the house.
The pumping system monitors the temperature and moves the hot fluid from the collector to the heat exchanger and vice versa. Also included in our integrated pumping system is an integrated digital controller and a KWh energy meter that allows you to see exactly what you are saving.
